| Irma M. Cooper Opera Columbus Vocal Competition |
Give your students a more in-depth operatic experience as they work onstage as well as behind the scenes to mount their own opera! Students participate in every aspect of the production, from performing to stage management, and from set and costume design to the marketing aspects of a production. Students have the opportunity work side-by-side with Opera Columbus professionals in an interactive, hands-on setting where they are encouraged to ask questions and learn about every aspect of opera.
Depending on your students' level of comfort in the spotlight, they will be able to elect whether they would like to be part of the production as a chorus member, a stage manager, or as a member of the marketing team. The relationship between Opera Columbus staff and your school's students will help create an unforgettable experience that culminates in a live performance.
This year's offering is John Davies' The Three Little Pigs.
While brother pigs Don Giovanni and Cherubino set off to make homes of sticks and straw, their sister, Despina, goes to the library to read up on "huff-proof, puff-proof" home construction. After Wolfgang Bigbad blows down the boys' flimsy homes, they run to their sister's sturdy new brick house quite ready to admit that going to the library and reading books is a pretty smart thing to do after all!
- Duration: 10 to 15 days, as mutually agreed upon by Opera Columbus and your school
- Fee: $2000
- Requires a tuned piano in the performance space and rehearsal areas.
We are currently accepting bookings for the 2010-2011 school year. Bookings are available October-May.
