Through our support groups, Opera Columbus offers a variety of opportunities for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to get involved as volunteers:
Les Claqueurs of Opera Columbus
Les Claqueurs is a group of senior citizens that devotes many hours of volunteer work to Opera Columbus and its community programs. Activities include staging several social events, which promote camaraderie and develop financial resources, and providing administrative support and assistance with Opera Columbus events. Les Claqueurs meet before each production and on several other occasions throughout the year.
Impresarios of Opera Columbus
Impresarios – Opera Columbus’s largest support group - works to raise awareness of opera in Columbus and Central Ohio. The group sponsors and organizes fundraising parties and events for Opera Columbus, and organizes Opera Columbus Excursions to regional opera performances. Impresarios has quarterly meetings, usually in members’ homes, with a mix of live music, a short business meeting, and ample food and libations.
OPERAzzi, Young Professionals of Opera Columbus
Founded in 2002, OPERAzzi functions in a social setting with the goal of engaging, educating, and entertaining young professionals of Columbus through the live music theatre experience. OPERAzzi offers support to Opera Columbus through regular attendance at performances and events and support of fundraising efforts throughout the year. OPERAzzi and Friends of the Zoo are annual co-hosts of Go Wild! for Opera at the Zoo, a fundraising event that features a unique combination of performers, food, and animals in an outdoor setting at the Zoo.
Repertorio
Repertorio is Opera Columbus’s newest support group, founded in 2006 and open exclusively to college and high school students. Innovative, fun and exciting, Repertorio is the new face of opera. Whether you are a performer or a spectator, anyone with an interest is welcomed. Members will be directly involved with Opera Columbus, meeting and interfacing with staff, artists, Trustees, and volunteers, providing opportune leadership and community involvement. Partnering with college and high school faculty as mentors and liaisons to higher education, this group will be responsible for implementing meetings, workshops, sponsored functions, fundraisers and other Opera Columbus events.
The Supers’ Guild of Opera Columbus
Hallmarks of The Supers’ Guild are informality and a love for the stage. Members often appear onstage in Opera Columbus productions in non-singing roles, and frequently work backstage as dressers, make-up, wardrobe or prop assistants, and occasionally assist the production crew. The Supers also sponsor various activities that generate publicity and support for Opera Columbus. The Supers meet quarterly,
plus a holiday dinner.
The Women’s Guild of Opera Columbus
The Women’s Guild is the oldest support group of Opera Columbus. Members devote many volunteer hours to Opera Columbus and raise thousands of dollars for the company through an annual fundraising event in the fall. In addition, The Women’s Guild, along with the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts Colleagues, operates The Theatre Shop (located at the Ohio Theatre), and equally shares profits from this joint effort.
For information on becoming an Opera Columbus volunteer, please contact VOLUNTEER, and indicate how you are interested in being involved.
