Director Crystal Manich is thrilled to create a new production of Madama Butterfly, her fifth for Opera Columbus, after the success of Madama Butterfly in 2013, and also La voix humaine/Pagliacci (2015), Lully’s Armide (2015) and Carmen (2017). She has been hailed by the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and other major publications for “lively” and “imaginative staging.” Her work spans across international borders including Pinchgut Opera in Australia, and Buenos Aires Lírica in Argentina. U.S. credits include over 50 productions with The Kennedy Center, Pittsburgh Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Tulsa Opera, Arizona Opera, Opera Omaha, Opera Santa Barbara, American Opera Projects, Utah Opera, North Carolina Opera, New England Conservatory, Boston University, Opera Delaware, Simpson College, Opera Roanoke, and Lyric Opera Baltimore. Recent highlights: Tosca in Boston; a Rameau triple bill in Sydney; Macbeth in San Antonio. Manich is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.
