Ashley Wise is excited to be a part of Opera Columbus- Voice of Freedom! Ashley is a native of Jackson, TN and received a B.M. in Piano Performance from Middle Tennessee State University and an M.M. in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Music has remained a constant in Wise’s life as she began playing the piano at age 5, playing for her church choir at the age of 11 and began teaching piano at age 16. Ashley’s talent was awarded as a contestant in the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Pageant where she is the only 4-time talent winner in the pageant’s history with piano as her instrument and was a 2-time 1st runner up to Miss TN.
Since moving to Columbus in 2005, Ashley sought continuing education opportunities and received training in the Suzuki Piano method under the instruction of the late internationally acclaimed Mary Craig Powell. She has held membership with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, The National Guild of Piano Teachers, named as an adjudicator, served as a teacher mentor, and is an active board member of the Central East Ohio District of the Music Teachers National Association. She has served on the staff at Denison University as a collaborative artist and studio instructor in the School of Music and the Suzuki Program. Ashley has been an instrumental and vocal accompanist for a variety of academic levels, ensembles, including those at Ohio State University, Otterbein University, Capital University, various school districts, Capriccio Youth Choir and professional artists throughout the greater Columbus area.
In addition to being an accomplished musician, Ashley is a wife and mom, and she is the owner, lead instructor of Wise Notes, Ltd. The private piano studio offers music instruction for all ages. The studio’s motto “It’s More Than Music” is shared daily and impresses upon the students the benefits of using music to build self esteem. Ashley enjoys being a part of the music ministry at her local church where she plays keyboard and maintains the flute and voice as her secondary instruments.
