Ms. Hester Warren-Steijn has been residing in New York City since October of 2015. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance, Ms.. Warren-Steijn has had a flourishing career as a Stage Manager and Assistant Director in her native Netherlands. For every opera season since 2003, she has mainly worked at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam; and has also collaborated with Dutch companies such as De Nederlandse Reisopera (touring opera company), the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Toneelgroep Amsterdam (Holland’s largest theater company). In addition to these established companies, she has also always enjoyed participating in projects “outide the theater box”, such as performing in soccer, ice hockey and Olympic stadiums with Companions Opera BV; and in the bowels of a container ship with Utrecht Studenten Concert.
In the United States she has worked as a Stage Manager with Kentucky Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, DesMoines Metro Opera and as an Assistant Director at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. In the 2017-2018 season she returns to Boston Lyric Opera for two productions, to the Park Avenue Armory and to DesMoines Metro Opera for their 46th summer fesitval. She will debut at Dallas Opera as Assistant Director for the opera Sunken Garden, composed and directed by Dutch composer Michel van der Aa. The 2018-2019 season will open with her debut at Opera Columbus as the Stage Manager for Crystal Manich’ production of Madama Butterfly.
