Markus Beam is currently a Vice-President and Artist Manger in the Vocal Division at IMG Artists. He works with a diverse roster of artists—encompassing both up-and-coming singers and well-established names in opera—who regularly perform on the world’s leading stages. This season sees his clients on the rosters of the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Dallas Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Philadelphia, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opéra National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Oper Frankfurt, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opernhaus Zürich, Dresden Semperoper, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Real de Madrid, Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, Canadian Opera Company, Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires and with the festivals of Salzburg, Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence, and the Santa Fe Opera. In addition to his work as an Artist Manger, Markus maintains an active coaching and consulting practice, working with performing artists to define and clarify personal goals, develop career plans, and develop their unique artistry and voice.
Prior to his work in Artist Management, Markus enjoyed an extensive career in opera houses and concert halls in both Europe and the United States. A dynamic performer, he has sung leading baritone roles at Rome Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Santa Fe Opera, Leipzig Opera, Opera St. Gallen Switzerland, Teatro Massimo in Palermo Sicily, Chicago Opera Theater, The Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy and other companies around the world. Operatic highlights include the title role in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, the Four Villains in The Tales of Hoffman and the Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance. On the concert stage, Markus has appeared multiple times at Carnegie Hall and New York’s Lincoln Center. Equally at home in song and musical theater, he has performed numerous concerts and recitals spanning all musical genres.
Markus has been recognized with awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation, George London Foundation, Opera Index, the Heafner-Williams Competition, and the Cooper-Bing Competition of Opera Columbus. A graduate of Philadelphia’s Academy of Vocal Arts, Mr. Beam also holds degrees from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music and the North Carolina School of the Arts, and trained at the young artist programs of Merola/San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Glimmerglass Opera and Wolf Trap Opera.
